I read somewhere online that the major record companies use a middleman to make financial deals with the radio stations or their owners to play their artists. Is that true?

The lack of comment on the "pay for play" question on this blog is interesting.
"pay for play" I bet I have been doing this "add them up" for 2 years now and I think the most I have seen from oversees air play was $5.22. Well that's pretty good. Some songs are really worth listening too, but no one wants to do all the publishing or promotional work it takes. It's hard out here. Just have to keep sending out the music. This blog is intended to open discussion about the experiences, frustrations and victories of the independent musician, singer and/or songwriter. It is intended as a forum to share tips as well as warnings about the music industry. Finally this blog is the voice of RoadShow Records, an independent record label in Muskogee, Oklahoma. A record label dedicated to making money from the sale of music instead of ripping off those who write it. So let's talk about it. Glad you could join us! http://www.roadshorecords.com

Hey anonymous, I think the silence is because people can't handle the truth.
I heard that the major labels pay an average of $68 per radio play to get their artists on the radio.
Anybody else heard that?
